Yerba Mate Tea (loose)

Yerba Mate (also known as mate) is a “tea” made from the dried leaves of an evergreen shrub in the holly family (llex paraguariensis) that grows in Central and South America. It contains a chemical stimulant similar to caffeine. It is prepared by steeping the dry leaves in hot water (150F) not boiling. The brew has a strong vegetal, herbal and grassy taste, reminiscent of some varieties of green tea. It is available in green, roasted and flavored selections.
