Pu-erh Tea (loose)
Pu-erh tea pronounced (POO-urr) is considered the espresso of teas, it is famous for its strong flavor. The strong flavor is created from the fermentation and aging process. Pu-erh is the only tea that is intentionally aged. It comes from the Yunnan Province in southern China. It is available in loose leaf and is often pressed or molded into bricks or cakes. It was orginally formed into bricks for ease of transporting in the thirteenth century, it was even used as currency exchange. Due to the special fermentation process these teas just improve with age. Some prized pu-erh teas can be over 50 years old.
